Dimension Mixer was fun!

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

If you didn’t make it to the Dimension Mixer last Wednesday, you missed out on an awesome night of amazing music, compliments of Peanut Butter Wolf’s DJ skills and great performances by Esther Nelson and Anubian Nights. Then there was a screening of ‘Haack: King Of Techno’, of which you should seek out, Netflix or whatever you kids do to see movies. WATCH IT. Above is a still from said movie with Mr. Bruce Haack himself on The Mister Rogers Show. So you say you missed it? If you snooze you lose! But, fret not; you can still purchase the Dimension Mix in ourstore

Goldenboy and sunshine kids, Irving, kick off a bold new year of releases

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

We’re all too excited around here about 2006. And what isn’t there to get excited about? Irving’slong-awaited second full-length record, ‘Death in the Garden, Blood on the Flowers,’ will be on iTunes and in stores everywhere on April 4, 2006. And the Irving guys will be everywhere too, with tours scheduled for February, March and April of 2006. To give you a quick taste of that fresh Irving sound that’s driving teens all nutty, preview one of the record’s thirteen utter gems.

And as if that isn’t enough to satiate a holiday-stretched gullet and gut, earmark a few of your hard-earned ducats for Goldenboy in May. A melodicist in the vein of Elliot Smith and Neil Finn (both with whom goldenboy Shon Sullivan has played), Goldenboy will warm the red edges of many a frostbitten ear this Spring.

And for those of you who can’t wait until next year, check out Goldenboy at the Silverlake Lounge on December 15th and Irving at the Troubadour with Northern California comrades, Rogue Wave, on December 20th. What better way is there to usher in the holidays? Besides…

…The Eenie Meenie Holiday Sale
The candy cane peppermint of ULYSSES white vinyl and Troubled Hubble red vinyl’for bargain basement prices. This is the year-end, Eenie Meenie Holiday Sale! We’re letting our entire roster go for next to nothing. Why waste time combing used bins for deals when you can save time and money with us, and spend that quality saved time combing your own gorgeous locks instead? Order now for the special people on your holiday list’yourself included.

Blue-Eyed Son closes 2005 in San Diego, with a slight off-shore wind, waist to shoulder high mixed-up swell
Celebrate the holidays in true California style as Blue-Eyed Son finishes off the year at Twiggs in San Diego on December 8th. The forecast calls for clear skies, moderate temperatures, respectable surf, and a hearty helping of melody, rhythm and Drew for all in attendance.

Dimension Mixed with live performances mixed with screenings mixed with a very special star-sighting of Esther Nelson
Join Anubian Lights, DJ Peanut Butter Wolf and Esther Nelson’yes, Esther Nelson of Dimension Five notoriety’for live performances, song-spinning and a special screening of ‘Bruce Haack: King of Techno’ at Cinespace in Hollywood on January 18, 2006. Don’t miss this opportunity to introduce yourself to the ever-dashing living half of Dimension Five Records, Esther Nelson.

Dimension Mix will be distributed in Europe through the Paris based Fargo Records. European kids, from the top of the Alps to the depths of the Chunnel, having been asking for it and will soon be riding the lightning of Dimension Five songs as covered by an A-Z of today’s raddest artists, from Anubian Lights and Beck to Stereolab and beyond. Odelay-ee-hoo.

The whispers and echo of Oranger in January
The sardonic wit of Oranger’s public face betrays a much more sensitive band. An emotional band. A kinder, gentler band that will be baring its most pale and tender spots in a hushed in-store performance at Amoeba Records, Hollywood, on January 20, 2006. If vulnerable Oranger doesn’t work for you, consider catching the band later that night at the Echo for a round of the band’s archetypal rock onslaught.

And Oranger’s big in pictures
Oranger sure does resonate with the cinematic types. The band has recently completed a film score for Vertov’s ‘Man With a Movie Camera’ to be released sometime next year on Jackpine Social Club. The film ‘Steve Katz, VP,’ which features an all-Oranger soundtrack won best student film honors at the New Hampshire Film Festival. And you can find Oranger’s version of ‘Mr. Sandman’ on the Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack on Shout! Records. Sure, Stubbs isn’t exactly cinema, but if you watch someone play the videogame long enough, you begin to sense among the characters the same desires, torments, loves and losses that drove our beloved pro and antagonists in such celluloid classics as ‘Casablanca’, ‘Gremlins’ and more. And besides, the soundtrack features a smattering of indie winners including Death Cab For Cutie, Ben Kweller, the Dandy Warhols, and the Flaming Lips, among others.

Join a winning team
We’re looking for a few good folks who want to take part in a winning campaign’street teaming for the upcoming Irving release. Get the word out to your friends, local music fans, local radio, and the greater community at large. A year from now when Irving co-headlines state fairs across the country alongside Peter Cetera, you can say to everyone, ‘I told you these guys were the real deal.’ Email stephanie@eeniemeenie to join the street team today.

Oranger busy tapping into gaming matrix

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

Oranger pulls their britches on one leg at a time, just like everyone else, but when them britches is on, they’re dropping sick video game hits. The band’s rendition of ‘Mr. Sandman’ for theStubbs the Zombie video game soundtrack is a tour de force, the stuff legends and dreams are made of, a coup d’etat, a man of la mancha, a shutout, the grand mal, grand master, and grandmaster flash of all video game-inspired jams. Right up there on the gym wall, next to the retired jerseys of Bette Midler and Joe Cocker for their tear-jerking and tragic cover of the Frogger video game theme.

And what does a job well done translate into amongst gamers? Either a chance to enter your three letter obscenities into the high score column, or the opportunity to rock the house at the G.A.M.E.convention in San Francisco on December 4th. But be sure to peel yourself away from the Warriors on your X-box 360 and check out Oranger.

While you’re at it, keep your schedule clear for Oranger’s December 15th performance at the SF Indie List Xmas Party at 12 Galaxies Theater in San Francisco.

Zombie fragments to accompany random Oranger shipments
Order your copy of ‘New Comes and Goes’ today and you might be a lucky recipient of some Stubbs the Zombie bounty. We’ll be blindly dropping Stubbs soundtrack samplers, postcards, and scrumptious gummy brains into orders before we ship ‘em out.

Finally, if you’re still into reading about Oranger, check out this Splendid interview with Mike Drake, where he unravels the mystery of Oranger’s oft-not mentioned early discography (featuring such venerable titles as ‘They Call Me Trick’, ‘Sir Sauce of Soy‘, and ‘Quadruple Live Bongo’).

Hockey Night does their business all over Europe
After a few successful weeks in the EU, Hockey Night will soon be homeward bound. The band is lapping up the final bend in Germany and will be back in the great warm North for a few shows in early December. Domestic fans are advised to grab a little nip of their favorite fire-belly, step out into the cold, and head out to the shows.

Dimension Mix intends to do its business next
Now we’re not naming any names around here, but it looks like the Dimension Mix has every intention to be released on a European label soon. A little look at how European listeners will respond: Rivierans in velour Gucci jumpers will snap their fingers dangerously high above their heads to ‘I’m Bruce’ in Monaco; after far too long of a discussion, burnt-out coffeehouse dwellers in Amsterdam will determine that Bruce Haack’s lyrics are actually ‘spherical and a little bit yellow’; the kids will go as crazy for Dimension Mix across Europe as they have in the United States’proof once again that Bruce Haack was only about, say, forty years ahead of his time.

Rogues and Troubadours and Irvings
Rogue Wave will join Irving for a little holiday toast at the Troubadour, December 20th. This is a perfect opportunity to take out your old friends who are home for the holidays and show them just how much cooler you’ve become. It’s also a damn good pairing of bands, and when you consider all the cool new Irving shirts for sale, it’s the perfect one-stop shop for all of your holiday needs.

Happy turkey, turkey, tofurkey; banana, nana, bo-furkey.

Old Habits Are Hard To Break: Old Blue-Eyed Is Back

Friday, November 4th, 2005

Tonight, keep an azure eye peeled for Blue-Eyed Son. Drew’ll be rolling in to Abbot’s Habit in Venice on a steel string with a six horse on his back. Or something like that. He’ll be back there again on November 18th, and in between you can catch him at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on the 10th. That’s good food, drink and music for those of you who can count. If you warm Drew up real nice-like with some sweet-as-puddin’ applause, he just might drop an El Debarge or Cameo bomb on you. Or if you’re extra, extra nice, he’ll run through all of West of Lincoln, head to toe…Japanese import version with bonus tracks and all.

International Ambassadors in the Sport of Hockey
Hockey Night runs a few warm-ups today and tonight in the Twin Cities and then it’s off to Europe for a stint with Clap your Hands Say Yeah and Supersystem. You can bet the band will be moving units and units of Keep Guessin vinyl, along with units and units of that liquid stuff found across Europe that just makes you feel so darn funny. Check out the complete tour dates.

If airline prices are keeping you down and away from Europe, catch a couple of Hockey Night videos until the fellas return. There’s even a video shot somewhere south of the equator, where the Earth’s reverse polarity causes all records to spin counter-clockwise. Weird.

Where Can You Find More Oranger? Where Can’t You?
Many score past your fiftieth spin of Oranger’s New Comes and Goes, you’re probably starting to think to yourself, ‘How could I possibly wrap my ears around some new Oranger tracks?’ In the true spirit of selflessness that we here at Eenie Meenie often exhibit around the holidays, we’re going to tell you:

-The Dimension Mix features interstellar covers of Bruce Haack’s Dimension Five recordings, including Oranger’s ‘Catfish.’
-The Stubbs the Zombie Soundtrackis great listening for the World Heavyweight Xboxing Champ of the undead in all of us. It also includes ‘Mr. Sandman,’ a little goodnight kiss of Oranger love.
-AND Oranger’s original score to Vertov’s Man With A Movie Camera is receiving a final round of rivets to secure the wings before shipping off to Jackpine Social Club for a 2006 release.

Irving Sightings Become More Frequent
We’re making no official announcements yet, but the lads from Irving have been seen in these parts more than once as of late. Strangely enough, they’ve been spotted hefting large bundles of sticks and what appears to be album artwork on their backs. And when all is quiet around here, it’s even possible to make out what sounds like new Irving tracks bumpin’ from their mini truxx. Or maybe that’s Jodeci.

How can winning be so Blue?

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Where can you find an autographed blue-eyed slab of wax, a couple of import only tracks, and a sweet little samba called Tropicalize II? In a little handful of Pacific we like to call the Blue-Eyed Son Prize Pack. The prize pack includes an autographed blue LP of “West of Lincoln;” a copy of the Japanese comp “Tropicalize II,” featuring Jack Johnson, Michael Franti, Spearhead, and our very own Blue-Eyed Son; and the way west of Lincoln Japanese copy of “West of Lincoln,” containing two Japanese-only tracks. All you need to do is give us your magic names and numbers to win.

Blue-Eyed Son’s Drew Heilprin is slowly wrapping up his onslaught of performances in the Los Angeles county area. After wearing his tires down to rubber flaps, and traversing as far as Pasadena, Long Beach, and Ventura, Drew ‘tha Go-Getta’ Heilprin brings it all back home for a couple of performances at his old breakfast haunt, Abbot’s Habit in Venice Beach, and the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on November 10th, where we will be giving away free copies to the first ten guests. Be sure to check the shows page for the delightful details.

Europe claps its hands for the upcoming Hockey Night
The British are all up in applause for la musica rock in November. After a couple of rollicking warm-ups in the Twin Cities and pepper-mothed Northen England, Hockey Night joins Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for a week-long tour of Britain, taking them from the very seat of the Empire to the grand foot of the Highlands. The boys have been forewarned to drink plenty o’ beer, because the food will sure as shinola kill them.

Hockey Night then moves across the channel to Amsterdam and Germany for a spate of shows with Supersystem (formerly El Guapo). ‘The handsome’ and Hockey Night will most assuredly indulge in the fruits of their labors, which should include liters of liquids, meters of brats, and the sexy pair of lederhosen every now and again.

VJ Me VJ You
A man of many hats and much heart, producer, multi-media artist, video director, and musician Ross Harris of DJ Me DJ You gets mad props for his recent video foray in conjunction with theDimension Mix. Harris’ video for The Stones Throw Singers’ Dimension Mix track, “Rain of Earth,” is a spirited and affectionate cross-breeding of The Fisher King, Bubblicious and a carnival funhouse. But unlike most e-ticket rides, this one’s well worth the price of admission. Check it out jout

Mustard and tomato beer, a Mormonorteño dance-a-thon, and one skins-jockey down, Oranger’s finally home in one piece…more or less
Add to that: one fractured ankle, trampled bits of guitar and rock-star innards, a dreadlocked poodle among beavers, miles and miles of classic rock road tracks, and you’ve got yourself a little slice of life on the road with Oranger and the Posies this past month. For more complete details, check out the all-too-graphic and ever-more-too-entertaining Oranger tour blog.

“New Comes and Goes” will be out in Europe on Fargo Records in January, 2006. Alert all your pen-pals abroad…And be safe out there.

One hundred mixes, maybe less, maybe more
Reports are filtering in that Irving is about to put the next record to bed. The tight-lippedgoofballs have kept mum about song and album titles so far. At mention of how the mixes sound though, you’ll catch the band members straining to mask a slight upward curl to their lips. Stay tuned for news about the long awaited second full-length release.

And if you happen to find yourself in what the locals like to call Frisco this weekend, loosen them chastity belt straps and hit up The Independent for the way-official, “New Comes and Goes” cd release party.

On an Oranger note, you have only a few days left to compete for the Oranger Prize Pack. Steeplechase, Stratego and bean-counting smarts are not the key to winning—just filling out the entry form and a little luck. Drop your name in the basket by October 20th.

Troubled Hubble bids farewell to a packed house
Troubled Hubble finished a frenetic six-year run on September 29th at Schuba’s in Chicago. The band’s last show ever was a sold-out, 75-minute romp and circumstance through memories, melancholy and the infinite adrenaline. From the opening and positively retrospective “14,000 Things To Be Happy About” to the finale, ne’er a dry eye in the house, “What We Do,” Troubled Hubble proved for one last time why they have earned a reputation as one of Chicago’s most tenacious and adored bands. Friends, family and fans cheered and shed the occasional tear for a band that has truly worked for, deserved, and relished all the love and respect it has received.

Word has it that folks from more than ten states attended the final show. If you weren’t one of those in attendance, you can still catch the stellar performance on eMusicLive.

Blue-Eyed Son’s tour de L.A. pays off with wide-eyed fans in Tinseltown
Blue-Eyed Son’s Drew Heilprin has booked countless shows across Los Angeles throughout September, October and November. For his old-skool fans, this localized tour is resulting in less freeway driving and more quality time at their local haunts with one of their favorite performers. For everyone else, the tour has been an eye-opener—exposing countless unwitting fans to Los Angeles’ pre-eminent surfer/singer/songwriter. And the exposure has paid off…

This season, Blue-Eyed Son’s “Step Away From The Cliff” has been featured in two television shows, Weeds and the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. On an occasional evening that Drew is not playing a venue nearby, flip on the boob tube and keep your ears peeled for Blue-Eyed Son and more from Eenie Meenie Records—only the stars can tell who you’ll hear next.

Oranger meets the end of the road in San Francisco Only two weeks are left in Oranger’s tour with the Posies. The two bands are making their way west, and then it’s down the West coast to San Francisco for a hometown CD release party at Independent on October 22. State Troopers, beverage suppliers and bingo halls everywhere are looking forward to the calm and cool that an Oranger-off-the-road will bring. While you still can, take a gander at the rest of the tour schedule

There is also still time to win the Oranger Prize Pack. The prize pack includes just about everything Oranger that a heart could desire (autographed discs, tangy stickers, sweets and tarts and everything smart) short of a jar of orange colored pickled eggs. You have just over a week left to win. Enter today.

New Comes and Goes is here to stay

Monday, September 19th, 2005

“New Comes and Goes” hits stores today. And that’s a pretty good reason to celebrate. So celebrate we will—in the spirit of Oranger.

Hold your figurative and literal mugs up high, jump around with your clothes on backwards like Kris Kross, take a little time to talk to a neighborhood crossing guard or police officer, hang your head out of a Cutlass window a scream “I’m on top of the world,” mark the September 20th box of your puppy or kitten calendar with hearts. Do whatever it is you normally do, just do it Oranger.

To celebrate the new record, Eenie Meenie is giving away an Oranger prize pack. A cornucopia of music, autographs, stickers, sweet treats and more, the prize pack is an homage to everything orange. Enter to win.

Oranger will be coming and going across the U.S.
Life is hard for Oranger. To support the release of “New Comes and Goes,” the band will be on the road alongside the Posies until the end of October. Then it’s time for a break. Or as Oranger’s Mike Drake says, “taking a bit of a break sounds geriatric. We’ll go into rehab and then back on the road.”

What better way to release the many pent-up Oranger hooks you have floating around your head than to see the band’s brain freezing and mind scrambling live show? For a complete listing of tour dates, check our shows page.

Get your daily dose of vitamin C
In the event you are reading this, but haven’t yet raced out to the store for the new disc, here are a few suggestions to help speed the process along:

1. Check out the Oranger e-card. You’ll find audio samples, photos, and video of the band. Warning: viewing the Oranger e-card typically results in the obsessive collecting of Oranger music and memorabilia. This may also include the collecting of homemade apple-faced Oranger action dolls and the frequenting of farmer’s markets for exotic citrus fruits. Proceed with caution.

2. Purchase “New Comes and Goes” at your favorite retailer, or shop Eenie Meenie’s own online boutique. A good record makes a prudent addition to a diversified portfolio.

3. Enter to win the aforementioned Oranger Prize Pack. Begin your memorabilia collection today.

Eenie Meenie bands rule the road
Troubled Hubble continues to terrorize the nation in a Leviathan named the Jules Verne;Hockey Night traverses the same nation in a van that thinks they should know better; Blue-Eyed Son has opted to stay home for California’s fabled September south swells and will be touring his own backyard haunts throughout the next two months; and Irving will be supporting the Fruit Bats in LA and SF, October 5th and 6th. For a detailed listing, check out our shows page.

Hurricane Katrina victims need your help. You can donate to the Red Cross today or see last week’s newspage for a more complete listing of organizations and ways to help.

In Exactly One Week, New Oranger Comes, and Stays

Monday, September 12th, 2005

The countdown has begun. In exactly one week, Oranger’s fourth full-length, “New Comes and Goes,” is here to stay. The perfect soundtrack to back-to-school, “New Comes and Goes” is filled to brim with party delights—like an expertly-poured mug of your favorite autumn concoction. Be it the jump-start bombast of “Crooked in the Weird of the Catacombs,” the full-bore mayhem of “Radio Waves,” or the romantic and noir resignation of “Crones”—you’ll soon see why this record is one you won’t want to do without this Fall.

For a sneak peek at the video, audio, and images of “New Comes and Goes,” you must check out the spectacular e-card

Filter Magazine will be giving away an Oranger and Eenie Meenie fun pack to someone very lucky—is it you? You just might be unwitting recipient of Oranger drink mix, Oranger stickers, and an autographed Oranger cd. Enter to win today.

And finally, you will find Oranger on tour with The Posies in September and October. We simply can’t say enough about this live show. Get floored for yourself. A complete list of dates is on ourshows page.

A Handful of Midwestern Boys and Jules Verne Lookout over the Big Apple
Troubled Hubble is trawling across the United States all month long in an eight-cylinder leviathan dubbed the “Jules Verne.” They’ll be meeting up with fellow midwesterners, Hockey Night at the Lookout! Records CMJ showcase on Thursday, September 15th, at Rothko in NYC.

We are presently contacting Hockey Night to also determine the name of the shifty dirigible that has been hefting them across the States off and on for the past six weeks. After having traveled around the nation in sixty days, the band will wrap up at le gran dame of tours in the beginning of October.

Troubled Hubble’s “Making Beds In A Burning House” and Hockey Night’s “Keep Guessin’” are both available on vinyl through Eenie Meenie. You can purchase these masterful works at our online boutique or at a fine music retailer near you.

Dimension of Dance and Do-Good The Dimension Mix is steadily swimming off the shelves and into fans’ hearts. Bruce Haack’s left-field songs/dances/science projects give the record its backbone. Today’s artists’ interpretations of these groundbreaking classics give the record its healthy teeth and strong bones. And the fact that all proceeds from the record are to benefit autism-related charities gives Dimension Mix its incalculable heart. Pick up a copy today.

And speaking of charities…

Everyone Has a Little Bit of Something to Give
Eenie Meenie Records is saddened by the tragic and devastating loss of human life and conditions in the southern United States. We would like to express our condolences to all people who have been affected. In an effort to ameliorate the consequences of this disaster, we encourage everyone to give what they can—time, money, a bed, a helping hand. Listed below is a guide for your own personal relief effort:

The American Red Cross is staging a massive relief effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina. They sure could use your time, your donations, your help.

When the waters recede, the rebuilding will begin. Habit for Humanity will be on the ground, hammers in hand, to rebuild the Gulf Coast. They will need your help.

If you have a house, room, or a spare bed you can share, there are thousands of displaced people who sure could use it right now. Hurricane Housing, a service of MoveOn.org, is coordinating housing relief for hurricane evacuees.

Maybe you don’t have an extra bed to share. Why not share your own bed—with a lovable pet. If you want to consider adopting a furry, cuddly hurricane victim, contact the Humane Society

You can also visit the “Katrina Relief” page on Craigslist.org for a more complete listing of organzations that desperately need your help.

Thank you.
