Goldenboy and sunshine kids, Irving, kick off a bold new year of releases

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

We’re all too excited around here about 2006. And what isn’t there to get excited about? Irving’slong-awaited second full-length record, ‘Death in the Garden, Blood on the Flowers,’ will be on iTunes and in stores everywhere on April 4, 2006. And the Irving guys will be everywhere too, with tours scheduled for February, March and April of 2006. To give you a quick taste of that fresh Irving sound that’s driving teens all nutty, preview one of the record’s thirteen utter gems.

And as if that isn’t enough to satiate a holiday-stretched gullet and gut, earmark a few of your hard-earned ducats for Goldenboy in May. A melodicist in the vein of Elliot Smith and Neil Finn (both with whom goldenboy Shon Sullivan has played), Goldenboy will warm the red edges of many a frostbitten ear this Spring.

And for those of you who can’t wait until next year, check out Goldenboy at the Silverlake Lounge on December 15th and Irving at the Troubadour with Northern California comrades, Rogue Wave, on December 20th. What better way is there to usher in the holidays? Besides…

Blue-Eyed Son closes 2005 in San Diego, with a slight off-shore wind, waist to shoulder high mixed-up swell
Celebrate the holidays in true California style as Blue-Eyed Son finishes off the year at Twiggs in San Diego on December 8th. The forecast calls for clear skies, moderate temperatures, respectable surf, and a hearty helping of melody, rhythm and Drew for all in attendance.

Dimension Mixed with live performances mixed with screenings mixed with a very special star-sighting of Esther Nelson
Join Anubian Lights, DJ Peanut Butter Wolf and Esther Nelson’yes, Esther Nelson of Dimension Five notoriety’for live performances, song-spinning and a special screening of ‘Bruce Haack: King of Techno’ at Cinespace in Hollywood on January 18, 2006. Don’t miss this opportunity to introduce yourself to the ever-dashing living half of Dimension Five Records, Esther Nelson.

Dimension Mix will be distributed in Europe through the Paris based Fargo Records. European kids, from the top of the Alps to the depths of the Chunnel, having been asking for it and will soon be riding the lightning of Dimension Five songs as covered by an A-Z of today’s raddest artists, from Anubian Lights and Beck to Stereolab and beyond. Odelay-ee-hoo.

The whispers and echo of Oranger in January
The sardonic wit of Oranger’s public face betrays a much more sensitive band. An emotional band. A kinder, gentler band that will be baring its most pale and tender spots in a hushed in-store performance at Amoeba Records, Hollywood, on January 20, 2006. If vulnerable Oranger doesn’t work for you, consider catching the band later that night at the Echo for a round of the band’s archetypal rock onslaught.

And Oranger’s big in pictures
Oranger sure does resonate with the cinematic types. The band has recently completed a film score for Vertov’s ‘Man With a Movie Camera’ to be released sometime next year on Jackpine Social Club. The film ‘Steve Katz, VP,’ which features an all-Oranger soundtrack won best student film honors at the New Hampshire Film Festival. And you can find Oranger’s version of ‘Mr. Sandman’ on the Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack on Shout! Records. Sure, Stubbs isn’t exactly cinema, but if you watch someone play the videogame long enough, you begin to sense among the characters the same desires, torments, loves and losses that drove our beloved pro and antagonists in such celluloid classics as ‘Casablanca’, ‘Gremlins’ and more. And besides, the soundtrack features a smattering of indie winners including Death Cab For Cutie, Ben Kweller, the Dandy Warhols, and the Flaming Lips, among others.

Join a winning team
We’re looking for a few good folks who want to take part in a winning campaign’street teaming for the upcoming Irving release. Get the word out to your friends, local music fans, local radio, and the greater community at large. A year from now when Irving co-headlines state fairs across the country alongside Peter Cetera, you can say to everyone, ‘I told you these guys were the real deal.’ Email stephanie@eeniemeenie to join the street team today.

Mid-sprint, Blue-Eyed Son sets sights on finish line

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Blue-Eyed Son’s Drew Heilprin is slowly wrapping up his onslaught of performances in the Los Angeles county area. After wearing his tires down to rubber flaps, and traversing as far as Pasadena, Long Beach, and Ventura, Drew ‘tha Go-Getta’ Heilprin brings it all back home for a performances in Hollywood and Echo Park. Be sure to check the shows page for the delightful details.

One hundred mixes, maybe less, maybe more
Reports are filtering in that Irving is about to put the next record to bed. The tight-lippedgoofballs have kept mum about song and album titles so far. At mention of how the mixes sound though, you’ll catch the band members straining to mask a slight upward curl to their lips. Stay tuned for news about the long awaited second full-length release.

Mustard and tomato beer, a Mormonorteño dance-a-thon, one skins-jockey down and three shows to go…Oranger’s a comin’ home
Add to that: one fractured ankle, trampled bits of guitar and rock-star innards, a dreadlocked poodle among beavers, miles and miles of classic rock road tracks, and you’ve got yourself a little slice of life on the road with Oranger and the Posies this past month.

For more complete details, check out the all-too-graphic and ever-more-too-entertaining Oranger tour blog. And if you happen to find yourself in what the locals like to call Frisco this weekend, loosen them chastity belt straps and hit up The Independent for the way-official, “New Comes and Goes” cd release party.

On an Oranger note, you have only a few days left to compete for the Oranger Prize Pack. Steeplechase, Stratego and bean-counting smarts are not the key to winning—just filling out the entry form and a little luck. Drop your name in the basket by October 20th.

Troubled Hubble bids farewell to a packed house
Troubled Hubble finished a frenetic six-year run on September 29th at Schuba’s in Chicago. The band’s last show ever was a sold-out, 75-minute romp and circumstance through memories, melancholy and the infinite adrenaline. From the opening and positively retrospective “14,000 Things To Be Happy About” to the finale, ne’er a dry eye in the house, “What We Do,” Troubled Hubble proved for one last time why they have earned a reputation as one of Chicago’s most tenacious and adored bands. Friends, family and fans cheered and shed the occasional tear for a band that has truly worked for, deserved, and relished all the love and respect it has received.

Word has it that folks from more than ten states attended the final show. If you weren’t one of those in attendance, you can still catch the stellar performance on eMusicLive.

Troubled Hubble finished a frenetic six-year run on September 29th at Schuba’s in Chicago. Word has it that folks from more than ten states attended the final show. If you weren’t one of those in attendance, you can still catch the stellar performance on eMusicLive where Troubled Hubble Live at Schuba’s is currently the number one download. Let’s keep it there.

Blue-Eyed Son’s tour de L.A. pays off with wide-eyed fans in Tinseltown
Blue-Eyed Son’s Drew Heilprin has booked countless shows across Los Angeles throughout September, October and November. For his old-skool fans, this localized tour is resulting in less freeway driving and more quality time at their local haunts with one of their favorite performers. For everyone else, the tour has been an eye-opener—exposing countless unwitting fans to Los Angeles’ pre-eminent surfer/singer/songwriter. And the exposure has paid off…

This season, Blue-Eyed Son’s “Step Away From The Cliff” has been featured in two television shows, Weeds and the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. On an occasional evening that Drew is not playing a venue nearby, flip on the boob tube and keep your ears peeled for Blue-Eyed Son and more from Eenie Meenie Records—only the stars can tell who you’ll hear next.

Oranger meets the end of the road in San Francisco Only two weeks are left in Oranger’s tour with the Posies. The two bands are making their way west, and then it’s down the West coast to San Francisco for a hometown CD release party at Independent on October 22. State Troopers, beverage suppliers and bingo halls everywhere are looking forward to the calm and cool that an Oranger-off-the-road will bring. While you still can, take a gander at the rest of the tour schedule

There is also still time to win the Oranger Prize Pack. The prize pack includes just about everything Oranger that a heart could desire (autographed discs, tangy stickers, sweets and tarts and everything smart) short of a jar of orange colored pickled eggs. You have just over a week left to win. Enter today.

New Comes and Goes is here to stay

Monday, September 19th, 2005

“New Comes and Goes” hits stores today. And that’s a pretty good reason to celebrate. So celebrate we will—in the spirit of Oranger.

Hold your figurative and literal mugs up high, jump around with your clothes on backwards like Kris Kross, take a little time to talk to a neighborhood crossing guard or police officer, hang your head out of a Cutlass window a scream “I’m on top of the world,” mark the September 20th box of your puppy or kitten calendar with hearts. Do whatever it is you normally do, just do it Oranger.

To celebrate the new record, Eenie Meenie is giving away an Oranger prize pack. A cornucopia of music, autographs, stickers, sweet treats and more, the prize pack is an homage to everything orange. Enter to win.

Oranger will be coming and going across the U.S.
Life is hard for Oranger. To support the release of “New Comes and Goes,” the band will be on the road alongside the Posies until the end of October. Then it’s time for a break. Or as Oranger’s Mike Drake says, “taking a bit of a break sounds geriatric. We’ll go into rehab and then back on the road.”

What better way to release the many pent-up Oranger hooks you have floating around your head than to see the band’s brain freezing and mind scrambling live show? For a complete listing of tour dates, check our shows page.

Get your daily dose of vitamin C
In the event you are reading this, but haven’t yet raced out to the store for the new disc, here are a few suggestions to help speed the process along:

1. Check out the Oranger e-card. You’ll find audio samples, photos, and video of the band. Warning: viewing the Oranger e-card typically results in the obsessive collecting of Oranger music and memorabilia. This may also include the collecting of homemade apple-faced Oranger action dolls and the frequenting of farmer’s markets for exotic citrus fruits. Proceed with caution.

2. Purchase “New Comes and Goes” at your favorite retailer, or shop Eenie Meenie’s own online boutique. A good record makes a prudent addition to a diversified portfolio.

3. Enter to win the aforementioned Oranger Prize Pack. Begin your memorabilia collection today.

Eenie Meenie bands rule the road
Troubled Hubble continues to terrorize the nation in a Leviathan named the Jules Verne;Hockey Night traverses the same nation in a van that thinks they should know better; Blue-Eyed Son has opted to stay home for California’s fabled September south swells and will be touring his own backyard haunts throughout the next two months; and Irving will be supporting the Fruit Bats in LA and SF, October 5th and 6th. For a detailed listing, check out our shows page.

Hurricane Katrina victims need your help. You can donate to the Red Cross today or see last week’s newspage for a more complete listing of organizations and ways to help.

In Exactly One Week, New Oranger Comes, and Stays

Monday, September 12th, 2005

The countdown has begun. In exactly one week, Oranger’s fourth full-length, “New Comes and Goes,” is here to stay. The perfect soundtrack to back-to-school, “New Comes and Goes” is filled to brim with party delights—like an expertly-poured mug of your favorite autumn concoction. Be it the jump-start bombast of “Crooked in the Weird of the Catacombs,” the full-bore mayhem of “Radio Waves,” or the romantic and noir resignation of “Crones”—you’ll soon see why this record is one you won’t want to do without this Fall.

For a sneak peek at the video, audio, and images of “New Comes and Goes,” you must check out the spectacular e-card

Filter Magazine will be giving away an Oranger and Eenie Meenie fun pack to someone very lucky—is it you? You just might be unwitting recipient of Oranger drink mix, Oranger stickers, and an autographed Oranger cd. Enter to win today.

And finally, you will find Oranger on tour with The Posies in September and October. We simply can’t say enough about this live show. Get floored for yourself. A complete list of dates is on ourshows page.

A Handful of Midwestern Boys and Jules Verne Lookout over the Big Apple
Troubled Hubble is trawling across the United States all month long in an eight-cylinder leviathan dubbed the “Jules Verne.” They’ll be meeting up with fellow midwesterners, Hockey Night at the Lookout! Records CMJ showcase on Thursday, September 15th, at Rothko in NYC.

We are presently contacting Hockey Night to also determine the name of the shifty dirigible that has been hefting them across the States off and on for the past six weeks. After having traveled around the nation in sixty days, the band will wrap up at le gran dame of tours in the beginning of October.

Troubled Hubble’s “Making Beds In A Burning House” and Hockey Night’s “Keep Guessin’” are both available on vinyl through Eenie Meenie. You can purchase these masterful works at our online boutique or at a fine music retailer near you.

Dimension of Dance and Do-Good The Dimension Mix is steadily swimming off the shelves and into fans’ hearts. Bruce Haack’s left-field songs/dances/science projects give the record its backbone. Today’s artists’ interpretations of these groundbreaking classics give the record its healthy teeth and strong bones. And the fact that all proceeds from the record are to benefit autism-related charities gives Dimension Mix its incalculable heart. Pick up a copy today.

And speaking of charities…

Everyone Has a Little Bit of Something to Give
Eenie Meenie Records is saddened by the tragic and devastating loss of human life and conditions in the southern United States. We would like to express our condolences to all people who have been affected. In an effort to ameliorate the consequences of this disaster, we encourage everyone to give what they can—time, money, a bed, a helping hand. Listed below is a guide for your own personal relief effort:

The American Red Cross is staging a massive relief effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina. They sure could use your time, your donations, your help.

When the waters recede, the rebuilding will begin. Habit for Humanity will be on the ground, hammers in hand, to rebuild the Gulf Coast. They will need your help.

If you have a house, room, or a spare bed you can share, there are thousands of displaced people who sure could use it right now. Hurricane Housing, a service of MoveOn.org, is coordinating housing relief for hurricane evacuees.

Maybe you don’t have an extra bed to share. Why not share your own bed—with a lovable pet. If you want to consider adopting a furry, cuddly hurricane victim, contact the Humane Society

You can also visit the “Katrina Relief” page on Craigslist.org for a more complete listing of organzations that desperately need your help.

Thank you.

Good Music for a Good Cause – Dimension Mix is proof that the good guy always wins in the end

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

After one week on store shelves, Dimension Mix is taking the ears and hearts of Americans by storm. Dimension Mix is currently sitting at #48 on the CMJ Top 200, a nice courtside #21 on the Media Guide/CMJ Indie Top 100, and on the ever impenetrable commercial charts, a remarkable #30.

With such nice returns after only one week on the open market, you would expect us to be satisfied, right? Wrong. Not while there’s still a good fight to be fought. All proceeds from Dimension Mix sales go to Autism related charities (such as Cure Autism Now), and that’s why we’re determined to blabber on and on about the record ‘til our hands, feet, eyes, ears, noses and throats go numb. Wanna help? Call and request your favorite Dimension Mix track from your local radio station. A list of request line phone numbers is right here.

If someone you know hasn’t gotten their hands on a Dimension Mix CD yet, but is in need of a little love, send ‘em the Dimension Mix e-card. It makes a heck of digital bandage, replete with photos, music teasers and a 30 second interview with Producer Ross Harris.

If that someone needs more than a little love, go ahead and give them the Dimension Mix CD. You can find it at your local indie retailer, Tower Records, Borders, Best Buy and our online store

Look over there, it’s an Eenie Meenie band. And another one. And another.
So many Eenie Meenie artists are on the road this time of year, it’s impossible to tell you which ones to look out for. For a complete list of tour dates, check out our shows page. Or browse our quick guide, to help you match your tastes with the correct touring band:

Do you live on the West coast? Are you a sucker for saccharin melodies, Go-bots, go-go girls, and dance parties?

Catch PINE*am this week before they return to Japan.

Would you still be able to stand up after an evening of swilling beer with a pack of Hell’s Angels? Is your record collection a cross-section of everything from Steppenwolf to the Cars to Pinback?

Oranger will be in a town near you, along with the Posies and Deathray Davies (on select dates).

Do you live in California? Do you, like most Californians, believe that summer is a year-long affair that only just begins to hit its stride around Labor Day?

Blue-Eyed Son is taking his road show to all his favorite California haunts.

If you had to draw a chart describing a rock show, shouldn’t aspects like fun and chaos register proportionately with one another? Come to think of it, wouldn’t it be better if fun and chaos registered somewhere completely off the chart?

Troubled Hubble will be blowing through town for another round of rock, shenanigans and ballyhoo.

What if everything you felt about mid 90s indie rock, everything you ever heard about classic rock, and everything you ever hoped for in the future of rock disappeared in a ball of smoke? Where would you turn for guidance then?

Hockey Night will remind you why you turn the radio on in the first place, throughout September.

Internet kill the video star
Finally Ladies and Gentleman, you can view brand-spanking new music videos from PINE*am, Oranger, and Troubled Hubble on our downloads page. Let Eenie Meenie provide you with a little bit of virus-free computer fun. One can never be too careful these days.

Fire red, baby blue, ice white, sage green—the many splendours of Eenie Meenie vinyl!

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Yes, the rainbow of Eenie Meenie vinyl selections may read like a color palette in a new car brochure, but just you wait ‘til you get one of these slabs of wax rotating. For the old skool aficionado, nothing bumps, grinds, crunches and buzzes like good old-fashioned vinyl. Like an old pair of loafers. Your goto T-shirt. The perfect burrito. Try on the new smoking red Trouble Hubble “Making Beds in a Burning House” LP or the sage green Bedroom Walls “Do the Buildings and Cops Make You Smile” 7” for size. You might never go back to crisp digital again.

What is Romanticore? It’s something you etch in the bedroom walls.
Romanticore is the self-imposed genre that frames Bedroom Walls music. Indications of romanticore, in the band’s own words, include “staring at the ceiling; sighing too loudly and too often; minimalist posturing undercut by epic gestures; existentialism (ages 17-22); driving around in circles; dandyism (ages 27-33); the “Oh no, love – you’re not alone!” part of “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide”; trying to cry/not to cry,” and more. A thick mustache and a strong dose of machismo are decidedly not romanticore, but in the right context, a hand-cut “Mom” tattoo on a sailor’s arm fits it to a tee.

Blue-Eyed Son warms up an overheated LA en route to Japan
Drew will be channeling his cool ocean blue for Angeleno audiences desperate in the throes of a mid-summer heat wave. You can catch him first on July 28 at the Hard Rock Café at Universal City Walk, and grab a reprise at the Derby on August 3 for the International Pop Overthrow. But the real story is in Japan.

This August, you’ll find Blue-Eyed Son in Japan for two dates at Summersonic Tokyo and Osaka. Drew will be playing on the fittingly named “Beach Stage” alongside the likes of Oasis, Kasabian, Bloc Party, The Arcade Fire, The Roots, M.I.A., and Nine Inch Nails. Japanese music fans have been going crazy for Drew’s California sound—the Japanese release of “West of Lincoln” release on Sideout Records, which includes two import only tracks, “I Work For Steve” and “Sunburn,” has received nothing but the highest praise from critics in the land of the rising sun.

Dimension Mix is still one month away, yet the people are chattering
The word is sneaking out about Dimension Mix. Kind talk is coming from every reputable side—MTV.com, Pitchfork, Filter, Rolling Stone, even VH-1. If you’ve actually managed to avoid the buzz, here’s what all the talking bees are chattering about: Dimension Mix is a wild collection of Dimension 5 songs, originally recorded by electronic auteurs Bruce Haack and Esther Nelson, covered by today’s most inventive artists. Proceeds from album sales will benefit autism charities such as Cure Autism Now. Song titles include the futurist “Music 4 Robots,” sugar-toothed “Jelly Dance” and the unknowingly patriotic “American Eagle.” And the artist roster is out of this world.Check it out!

Dimension Mix will hit the streets, stores and cyberspace on August 23, 2005.

PINE*am lands in August, Oranger is sometime soon to follow
PINE*am touches back down in America in August—and this time around, they’re bringin’ it. We’re talking A-game electro pop for unsuspecting American audiences. If you missed them last time, don’t be foolish again. Highlights for the August tour include a couple of not-to-be-missed anime expos—Otakon in Baltimore, August 19, and Pacific Media Expo in Long Beach, California, September 3-4. Pick up “Pull the Rabbit Ears” from our online boutique and learn the words so you can sing along when the girls are in town.

And finally, the fellas from Oranger are releasing LP number four, “New Comes And Goes” on September 20. A tour is in the works and you can bet, given the band’s past tour buddies (Elliott Smith, Pavement, Creeper Lagoon, R.E.M., The Apples in Stereo), the upcoming tours are gonna be pretty, pretty fancy, and one heck of a value, too. We’ll keep you posted as details come in.

Hey, let’s all have a good week. What d’ya say?

Troubled Hubble ambushes crowd after unsuspecting crowd

Friday, July 1st, 2005

There are only a few weeks left of Troubled Hubble’s rampage across the country. Putting the ‘scorched’ back into scorched-earth policy, these fellas are a musical tornado, earthquake, and volcanic eruption all in one, having left trails of destruction on stages across the nation. Upcoming West coast dates with Maximo Park are not to be missed. Check out the remaining show dates. Now, before it’s too late.

PINE*anime this August
We told you they’d return. We failed to mention that they could be found at anime conventions. In addition to a nice itinerary of club shows this August, PINE*am will be performing live at Otakonin Baltimore and Pacific Media Expo in Long Beach, CA. A friend of anime is a friend of PINE*am. Bring a sharpie and get ready to stand in the long but worthwhile autograph line. PS: PINE*am has a DVD trailer featured in this issue’s Newtype USA.

Looks like Blue-Eyed Son will be crashing at PINE*am’s pad
About the same time PINE*am is charming the socks off U.S. audiences, Drew will have Japanese audiences swooning to his California tunes. Drew will be on tour to support his Japanese release of “West of Lincoln.” The highlight of the tour will be Summersonic in Tokyo and Osaka, where Drew will play with the likes of Oasis, Kasabian, Bloc Party, The Arcade Fire, The Roots, M.I.A., and Nine Inch Nails, on the fittingly named “Beach Stage.”

You bring the fireworks this weekend; Seksu Roba will bring the soundtrack
Seksu Roba will be performing at Club Loaded / The Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco tonight and Nuemo’s in Seattle tomorrow. Wherever these two turn up, a dance party is sure to follow. Usher in the nation’s 229th birthday with your groove on.

July is the month for Eenie Meenie to kick down some newfangled music technology
First we put a flat disc of wax-like material on a lathe-like machine. Recorded music is then etched with a recording stylus onto the wax. Next, an exact opposite of this etched wax (similar to a negative of a photograph) is burned onto acetate (the “acetate” is more accurately a lacquer covered with a layer of cellulose nitrate). Against this more durable acetate, vinyl copies nearly identical to the original wax imprint are pressed. These “records” are then packed into neat sleeves with slick artwork and sent off to stores. Some records will have Hockey Night recordings on them. Some will be bright, luscious, hot red numbers with Troubled Hubble recordings on them. And some 7” diameter ones will have the Bedroom Walls on them.

That’s right. Vinyl collectors have a new reason to celebrate—Eenie Meenie’s whole new crop of vinyl includes the collectable red Troubled Hubble “Making Beds In A Burning House” LP, as well as the forthcoming Hockey Night “Keep Guessin’” LP and the Bedroom Walls “Do the buildings and cops make you smile?” 7” single.

Heavy hitters on deck for the months to come…

Dimension Mix – August 23:
You’ve heard us harpin’ on and on about the Dimension Mix. A bunch of Dimension 5 Records covers by a bunch of bands that everyone considers their favorites. Seriously, the line-up on this disc is out of this world. And for every disc you buy, a portion of the proceeds goes towards finding a cure for Autism. What more can you ask for? The Dimension Mix will be out August 23.

Oranger – September 20:
Oranger is slated to release “New Comes and Goes,” a sure-to-be critically acclaimed follow up to the 2003 release, “Shutdown the Sun.” On the new record, Oranger exchanges its characteristic soft rock sound—a la Air Supply and the Neville Brothers—for some good, clean, frolicking fun. Standout tracks include ‘Crooked in the Weird of the Catacombs’ and ‘Crones,’ not that it means anything to you since you can’t get the record yet…but you’ll be able to soon.

KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED:

Space Needle, yesterday’s stylized forecast of tomorrow
More than a decade ago, Space Needle released the critically lauded “Voyager.” An experiment in music making that resembled oodles and noodles of psych-fuzz ricocheting and rolling about on a gym floor chock-full of primitive tape loops, “Voyager” was one of those records that people-in-the-know touted as “way ahead of its time.”

Two years after the release of “Voyager,” Space Needlers Jud Ehrbar and Jeff Gatland were joined by Varnaline front, rear and side-man, Anders Parker. Parker brought the band strong name recognition, formidable ax-wielding expertise, a keen knowledge of carpentry and astro-physics, and a third set of test tubes and Bunsen burners for the band’s musical journey. “The Moray Eels Eat the Space Needle” was released in 1997, and again, fans and critics praised the band’s uncanny ability to see into the future—to tell musical fortunes.

And, like all things, that was that.

Until now. Time is just now beginning to match pace with Space Needle’s past creations. If you haven’t heard them yet, stay tuned—you will.

Hockey Night
What does Hockey Night have going for it? Musical comparisons to such market-tested standard bearers as Bruce Springsteen, Thin Lizzy and Journey. Residence in the beautiful and sometimes cold Northern town of Minneapolis. Successful panning, mining and creative reinterpretation of 90s independent rock. So successful that the word derivative usually gets its lousy head beat by such commendable words as inventive and inspired.

Hockey Night will also have its forthcoming “Keep Guessin’” released on vinyl by Eenie Meenie. The more we know, the more we’ll tell you.

Dimension Mix provides a fitting soundtrack to the fifth dimension
If, as science fiction will have us believe, the fifth dimension is indeed the dimension of radio waves, Dimension Mix is undoubtedly the zany broadcast that said waves are sending out. Eenie Meenie’s Dimension Mix compilation features today’s most groundbreaking artists performing covers of the exploratory and pioneering electro/children’s records of the 1960s originally recorded by Bruce Haack, Esther Nelson and the Dimension 5 label.

Whereas we here in the third dimension conduct our business to such background sounds as barking dogs, buses coughing and moaning, and cell phones, oh so many cell phones ringing, the fifth dimension floats along nicely to the rhythm and sound of today’auteurs taking their stab at the sounds of yesteryear’s most prophetic musical inventeers. The Dimension Mix will be on compact discs, iTunes and radio waves, come August 23, 2005

AND WHILE YOU’RE OUT, YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO SEE:

Troubled Hubble
How do you not want to go see a band that calls its van the Jules Verne? Despite a thrown belt in New Jersey, the JV is back in action and slinging the band westward as we speak. Do take the time to see Troubled Hubble live. West coast dates are with Maximo Park and there’s a good chance you’ll never have another such intimate engagement with either band again. Mid-sized clubs and the Jules Verne today. Arenas and private jets tomorrow.
